Atletico Madrid's Nicolas Gaitan set for Chinese Super League move - reports

Published on: 26 February 2018

Amid talk that Fernando Torres and Yannick Carrasco could leave Atletico, Diego Simeone feels the CSL's transfer window unsettles players of European clubs.

Atletico Madrid winger Nicolas Gaitan is on the verge of joining Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang, according to multiple reports.

Marca claims that Gaitan's move to Dalian Yifang could be completed on Monday.

The Argentine was left out of Atletico's squad in Sunday's 5-2 league triumph at Sevilla with AS reporting that he is travelling to China to undergo a medical ahead of an €18m transfer.

He is set to sign a three-year contract ahead of the Chinese Super League transfer window closing on Feb. 28.

Gaitan has made 29 appearances for the Rojiblancos since joining the club in 2016 from Benfica.

He was linked with several European clubs during the winter transfer window.

Tied to Atletico until June 2020, Gaitan has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, his last a 1-0 triumph over FC Copenhagen in last week's Europa League round of 32 return leg.

Gaitan is not the only Atletico player targeted by Dalian Yifang.

The Spanish club confirmed last week that Yannick Carrasco had been given permission to negotiate with the Chinese outfit with a view to a potential transfer.

Dalian Yifang, who earned promotion to the top flight of Chinese football for this season after winning the China League One title last year, are coached by Spaniard Juan Ramon Lopez Caro.
