Baba Rahman leaves door open on possible La Liga switch after talks with Villarreal and Girona

Ghana and Chelsea defender Baba Rahman is in talks with Spanish sides Villarreal and Girona over a possible switch following reports that he cut short his loan deal with German side Schalke 04.

According to reports in the UK, the former Augsburg defender has opened discussions with Villarreal and Girona.

Villarreal are hoping to bolster their defensive ranks as they aim to avoid relegation while Girona look to augment their squad in their quest to qualify to the Europa League next season.

Rahman, 24, was sidelined for more than a year after tearing his cruciate ligament at the 2017 African Cup of Nations with Ghana; an injury which had a sufficient impact on his 18-month loan spell at the Bundesliga club.

The left-back is looking for a six-month loan deal to revitalize his career and is currently fit to play despite only appearing for 327 minutes this season.

Chelsea are keen to recall him but they are currently well-stocked in the left back position, with both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri battling it out for a spot in Maurizio Sarri's defence.

He made four appearances in all competitions for Schalke 04 in the first round of the campaign.
