Barcelona forward Oshoala leads 25 Super Falcons for US Tour

African Women Player of the Year and Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala tops the provisional list of 25 players invited by Nigeria women’s national team coach Randy Waldrum for next month’s “2021 WNT Summer Series”, to be hosted by US Soccer between 10 and 16 June 2021.

The reigning African champions Nigeria will open their account on 10 June against Jamaica at the BBVA Stadium, to be followed by facing Portugal at the same venue three days later. The Super Falcons will conclude the series by facing hosts USA at the brand new Q2 Stadium in Austin on 16 June.

The Super Falcons’ American coach is expected to drop two players before leading a list of 23 to the United States, for what would be his second major outing with Nigeria after leading them to win the Turkish Women’s Cup in Antalya last February.

Waldrum underlined the importance of the US trip as part of his side’s preparations for the forthcoming 2022 Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which has pitched the nine-time continental champions in a tricky first round cash against regional rivals, Black Queens of Ghana.

“The Summer Series is an interesting event and the teams featuring are of very high quality. It is a great prospect for us as we continue to build ahead of the qualifying games for next year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations,” the former Trinidad & Tobago coach noted.

The list included along with Oshoala veteran defender Onome Ebi, young goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, midfielder Halimatu Ayinde and forward Rasheedat Ajibade as well as 10 home-based players.
