Barcelona pushes to secure Nico Williams signing amid registration concerns

Nico Williams' potential transfer to Barcelona remains uncertain as the club faces challenges in registering the player.

The latest developments came from a meeting between Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, and Williams' agent, Félix Tainta, held in Zaragoza—a midway point between Barcelona and Bilbao.

According to Jijantes, the two spent time discussing and possibly finalizing the conditions of Williams' contract with Barcelona. However, a significant concern for the club is the ability to register Williams if they trigger his release clause.

David Ibañez, speaking on ElDesmarque's Twitch channel, explained that Barcelona needs to settle its financial accounts to make Williams' signing official. The meeting aimed to clarify when the player could be registered, with Deco expressing optimism about the club's readiness. Key to this process are the upcoming Nike contract and the need to reduce the club's salary mass.

Barcelona remains confident that the Spanish-born Ghanaian winger will not move to the Premier League, considering him a priority for their attack. Athletic Bilbao's president, Jon Uriarte, has expressed frustration over the pressure on Williams regarding his future. Barcelona's focus on Williams, whose release clause is around 55-60 million euros, signifies their intent, though they must generate income and meet Financial Fair Play requirements before completing the signing.
