Barcelona Star Accused of 'Tapping Up' Philippe Coutinho Again While on International Duty

Published on: 16 November 2016

Philippe Coutinho has reportedly been tapped up by Neymar over a possible move to Barcelona during the recent international break.

In a move that is no doubt set to infuriate Reds fans, Brazilian news outlet UOL Esporte claims that the Barcelona superstar spoke to the Liverpool playmaker about joining him at the Camp Nou.

The pair were part of the senior Brazilian national team during the November international break, and UOL Esporte believes that discrete discussions took place between the two attackers about Coutinho linking up with Neymar at the La Liga giants in the future.

The allegations add further fuel to the fire that Coutinho could eventually depart Anfield for the Catalan club after noises had been made by Barcelona about wanting to prise one of Liverpool's star assets away from Merseyside.

However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would be defiant in his stance to keep the 24-year-old in the Premier League, and would no doubt ensure an astronomical price tag is puton Coutinho's head if the rumours surrounding a possible move actually had any legs - particularly with the mercurial attacker still having three-and-a-half years to run on his present contract.

Coutinho himself has made it known that he is harbouring no ambitions to leave Liverpool at the present time, but if a concrete offer was made for his services from the reigning La Liga champions, the ex-Inter Milan man could find Barcelona's overtures difficult to turn down, such is their current standing in the game.

If the Rio de Janeiro born footballer did end up making the switch to Spain, he would become the fourth piece in an already formidable attacking South American line up under manager Luis Enrique, with Neymar and Lionel Messi already forming a fearsome front three for Barcelona alongside Coutinho's former Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez.

Coutinho has been in outstanding form for Liverpool this term. The Reds currently sit top of England's top flight with 26 points from their first 11 matches of 2016/17, and Coutinho's haul of five goals and five assists have gone some way to helping Liverpool launch a title challenge even at this early stage of the season.
