Barnsley Centre-Back Alfie Mawson to Join Swansea for Undisclosed Fee

Swansea City and Barnsley have come to an agreement over the transfer of centre-back Alfie Mawson, who is set to join the Welsh outfit after discussing personal terms.


Both clubs made announcement on Friday, with Barnsley informing fans of the player's upcoming absence for a match against Rotherham United on Saturday. Swansea put out their own statement, claiming that a move had been agreed, but for an undisclosed fee.

The statement on Barnsley'sofficial websitereads: "Barnsley Football Club wishes to inform fans that a fee has been agreed today with Swansea City AFC for the transfer of Alfie Mawson.


"As a consequence, he will not feature in the match against Rotherham United FC tomorrow. Barnsley Football Club will keep fans informed of any further developments as they occur."


"Swansea's announcement reads: "Swansea City have agreed an undisclosed fee with Barnsley for their highly-rated centre-back Alfie Mawson. The move is subject to the 22-year-old agreeing personal terms at the Liberty.


"Mawson, who joined Barnsley from Brentford in June 2015, scored seven goals last season as he helped the Tykes win the League One play-offs and lift the Football League trophy. This season, Mawson has scored twice in four Championship appearances as Paul Heckingbottom's side sit in the top half of the division."
