Black Stars’ performances in last three tournaments unacceptable - Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif

Ghana’s Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif has expressed his displeasure about the Black Stars’ recent performances at major tournaments.

The four-time Africa Champions has underperformed in the last three tournaments, suffering elimination from the group stage.

Before AFCON 2023 early setback, the team had suffered group stage exit at AFCON 2021 and World Cup 2022.

At the floor of Parliament, Ussif Mustapha asserted that the performances of the Black Stars in the last three tournaments are not acceptable considering government's huge investments in the team.

"The Black Stars' performance in the last three major tournaments, namely the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and 2023 AFCON in Cote D'Ivoire, where Ghana exited at the group stages of all three tournaments, notwithstanding Government's continuous huge investment in the team, is not acceptable."

The Black Stars were eliminated at the group in the just ended 2023 AFCON tournament, where Ivory Coast emerged as winners.

Ghana finished third in Group B after failing to win any of their games in their group. They drew two and lost one.
