Brighton boss Graham Potter heaps praise on Premier League award nominee Tariq Lamptey

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has heaped praise on Ghanaian international Tariq Lamptey following his impressive display in the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The 20-year-old has been shortlisted for Premier League Player of the Match for September and he is joined on the list by Everton duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and midfielder James Rodriguez.

Also in the running are Timothy Castagne (Leicester), Harry Kane (Tottenham), and Sadio Mane (Liverpool).

The head coach has praised hard work put in by Chelsea, where Lamptey played from the age of seven.

"The thing with Tariq is he has had a fantastic development, I must say firstly at Chelsea," Potter said as quoted by theargus.co.uk.

"They are his club that spent a lot of time with him and they have got him to this point. Then Tariq has taken a decision to come to us to try to develop his career and that takes huge courage.

He added, "He has done that and the performances that you see are down to him."

"It’s his attributes, it’s his quality, it’s his personality. He has not been with us long but he has made a real impact in terms of how he is about the place “Everybody loves him. He is a great kid and he has got a bright future.

"The short term, medium term, long term future hopefully is with us."
