Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens dismisses England talk

Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens has dismissed talk of an England call.

Stephens has been outstanding for the Seagulls in their debut Premier League season.

England boss Gareth Southgate has shown a great willingness to give in-form talent a chance since he took over the Three Lions.

With Stephens and Brighton enjoying a fine season, is a World Cup call-up crossing his mind?

“Not really," Stephens told the Daily Star. “I've got a big part to play at Brighton first before any opportunity with England [could come].

“As long as my form is good here and we are winning games, anything is possible. If that [England] opportunity came, then I'd take it with both hands."

Stephens, however, is determined to make the most of his chance in the top flight.

"I'm enjoying it," he said. “I've had a couple of opportunities before but I've probably benefitted coming to the Premier League now as I'm a better player than I was back then."
