Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito believes his outfit were underrated by Malian Giants, Stade Malien following their qualification to the semifinals of the Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaian FA Cup champions defied all odds to reach the semifinals of the competition in their maiden appearance after triumphing over Stade Malien.

Dreams FC came from behind to draw with Stade Malien in Kumasi on Sunday following a 2-1 win in Bamako to seal qualification to the last four of the competition.

The 2009 Confederations Cup winners opened the scoring at the Baba Yara Stadium before Sylvester Simba leveled pegging to snatch a draw on home turf.

Speaking after the game, the experienced Ghanaian trainer asserted his side were undermined by their Malian opponent particularly in the first leg tie played in Bamako.

“I knew they will come against us more than the way we played them in Mali. I think they underrated us. Our position on the league table deceived them. Before they realized we had qualified already” he said.

Dreams become the first Ghanaian side to reach the semis of the CAF Confederation Cup, since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko did so back in 2005, in the maiden edition of the competition.

The FA Cup holders will lock horns with Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semifinals of the Confederations Cup.

The Still Believe lads will travel to Egypt to face Zamalek in the first leg tie on April 21, 2024 before the return leg in Kumasi on April 28, 2024.
