Confederation of African Football have disclosed that Africa's main target at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is to reach the final following Morocco's exploits at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions became the first African nation to qualify for the last four of the global showpiece, however they lost to the defending champions, France.

Morocco finished fourth after losing to Croatia who clinched a play-off victory. Josko Gvardiol gave Croatia the lead on seven minutes but Achraf Dari levelled just two minutes later. Mislav Orsic restored Crotia's lead three minutes before half-time.

"Morocco opened the door by reaching the semi-finals this month and I am confident an African nation will go further at the next World Cup,” said the South African billionaire.

“The main objective of CAF is for an African nation to win the World Cup and that goal is within reach.”

“There are at least 10 African nations that can compete at the highest level and win the World Cup,” added Motsepe.
