Cahill considers Chelsea departure

Former England centre-half Gary Cahill has admitted that he will have to consider leaving Chelsea in January if he fails to break back into the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge.

The 32-year-old has yet to feature at all under head coach Maurizio Sarri, a situation which has clearly left Cahill frustrated, with the 61-times capped defender having been with the Blues since January 2012.

I'm definitely finding it difficult this year to deal with that situation.

He told the Daily Mirror: "I don't want to jump the gun but as things stand at this time, probably, yes (I might have to leave in January).

"I realise that sometimes you have to make tough decisions and football doesn't wait for people. Sometimes you have to make those decisions to keep going and progressing.

"Having been a big part of things for six, seven years and played a huge part, not just as a squad player, I'm definitely finding it difficult this year to deal with that situation.

"Everything gradually comes to an end, or there's a new challenge around the corner."

Cahill has racked up 282 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since his arrival from Bolton Wanderers, helping them win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup, as well as success in the Europa League and a first-ever Champions League triumph in 2012.

He was also a member of the England squad who made it all the way to the semi-finals of World Cup 2018, but feature just once - in the 1-0 defeat to Belgium in the Three Lions' final group game.

England are available at 8/1 to claim the title at Euro 2020, with Germany priced at 11/2 and reigning world champions France 4/1.
