Cahill: Crucial Chelsea get Conte signature on new deal

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is eager to see manager Antonio Conte pen new terms.

The Italian's success has attracted interest from Inter Milan, who want him to be their boss next term.

Asked by the London Evening Standard if finalising a deal with Conte was as important as Eden Hazard, Cahill said: “Yes, of course it's important. The powers that be will sort it out.

“Would I like him to stay? The answer is yes, 100 per cent, just like I want all of our players to stay. But the nature of football is that sometimes people stay, people go.

“It's important we keep the freshness about this team next season, we keep the competition, we keep the goals, keep everything in place to have a successful year.

“Having the same manager in place is fantastic and competition for places everywhere, plus a few additions, that's always healthy.

“I don't know why he [Conte] wouldn't be happy. If you saw him at West Brom [when Chelsea clinched the title], you could see that after just winning the League in his first season. But I can't speak about people's personal situations and decisions."
