Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has defended his actions for swearing at Hertha Berlin fans on Saturday, claiming he was spat at prior to the incident which has gathered all the talking points.

The Italian manager watched his side score a late, late equaliser through Robert Lewandowski to snatch a 1-1 draw in the German capital but this off-the-field incident has generated more interest.

According toBild, sections of the Berlin crowd began taunting and eventually spat at the former Chelsea boss: "Yes, I made that gesture, because I was spat on.

Euro 2016 winner Renato Sanchez can be seen walking towards the changing rooms with Ancelotti following closely behind him. The latter is coming down the steps and he is clearly gesturing obscenities at the crowd.

It's unclear as to yet what punishments loom for Ancelotti or Pal Dardai's side but the game itself almost caused a shock. Vedad Ibisevic's 21st minute opener had given Die Alte Dame the lead before Lewandowski's 96th minute leveller.
