Ronaldo is no stranger to Turkey. In January 2017, Ronaldo sent a message of hope to children currently embroiled in Syria's five-year long war and stated that they were the "true heroes" that the world needed.

He said: This is for the children of Syria. We know that you have been suffering a lot. I am a very famous player “ but you are the true heroes. Don't lose your hope. The world is with you. We care about you. I am with you.

The ex-Manchester United star also has previous for working in a charitable capacity to help those in need. Ronaldo has supported globally recognised charities such as Save the Children and UNICEF in the past, and has even reached into his own pocket on occasions to help fund various projects.

The current holder of the prestigious Ballon d'Or trophy once paid almost £70k to help a 10-month old child undergo a life-saving operation, donated his 2016 Champions League bonus to numerous charities in need of monetary funding, handed over £100k to a cancer research centre that helped his mother recuperate from the worldwide disease and offered help to those affected by wildfires back in his hometown of Madeira.
