Ghanaian international Harrison Afful has concluded his tenure with Charlotte FC after the MLS side opted not to renew his contract for the 2024 season.
The decision was announced on October 30, 2023, along with similar contract non-renewals for five other players, including McKinze Gaines, Chris Hegardt, Pablo Sisniega, Jan Sobocinski, and Adrian Zendejas.
Afful, who is currently 37 years old, made a total of 15 league appearances during his second season with the North Carolina-based team.
The club expressed gratitude to all the departing players for their contributions.
“Six players have had their contract option declined: Harrison Afful, McKinze Gaines, Chris Hegardt, Pablo Sisniega, Jan Sobocinski and Adrian Zendejas.
“Everyone at Charlotte FC would like to thank all the departing players for their contributions to the Club.”
Despite this development, Afful has expressed his intention to continue playing before eventually retiring from the sport.
He has now concluded his 10th season in the Major League Soccer.
