Chelsea Could Face Fitness Worry as Star Performer Shows Up for International Duty With Injury

Chelsea fans could be left quite worried after hearing that their in-form striker Diego Costa could have fitness issues.

Costa leads the Premier League scoring charts this season, with nine goals to his name after 11 outings, and scored the third against Everton for the Blues over the weekend.

His purple patch has seen him get into Julen Lopetegui's Spain side, but according to Spanish publicationEl Confidencial, the Brazil-born forward showed up for international duty carrying a knock.

Costa arrived with a hematoma in his groin -a solid swelling of clotted blood -and it isn't expected to keep the striker from featuring against Macedonia and England, but it could prove a worry if things get worse.

The report reads:"Costa came with a hematoma in his groin that could have sent him back to London, but Julen Lopetegui decided he should stay. The new coach wants [Costa]close, wants to give love and support and, more than anything, wants to make the team adapt to his game."

Costa has been Chelsea's most potent threat this season, and has formed a dangerous partnership with Eden Hazard and Pedro in Antonio Conte's new 3-4-3 system.

But he was just as deadly in the previous formation, having saved the Blues' blushes in matches against West Ham, Watford and Swansea earlier in the season.

Conte still has a dependable striker in Michy Batshuayi available if needs be, but he would certainly hate to lose Costa at this stage. The player is also on four yellow cards this season, just one bookingaway from an automatic suspension.

He has shown remarkable calm since earning his fourth yellow against Arsenal. However, he would have to remain out of trouble until the last day of the year to avoid a ban. Unlikely as it sounds.
