Chelsea's newcomer Marcos Alonso has admitted he quickly took the chance to sign for the London club despite being linked with a potential move to Barcelona, as reported by theDaily Mail.

The Spaniard came to Stamford Bridge this season after spending three years with Serie A side Fiorentina. The 26-year-old has made a phenomenal start with Chelsea, scoring four goals for Antonio Conte's team.

"There were some great teams interested in me in the summer but I decided to join Chelsea because they are a team that I had always liked," Alonso revealed.

"I saw a possibility of succeeding here. I had offers from other teams from Italy and Spain but when Chelsea came to get me, I did not think twice.

"Chelsea is a club that has always attracted me. From my early years at Bolton, I knew that Chelsea was a great club. The true thing is I was right to come here."

Before Alonso made his debut with the Blues, the left-back was no stranger to the English Premier League as he previously had inconsistent spells with both Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland. The Spanish defendernow feels he has reinvented himself under Conte's leadership and made the right decision to join Chelsea.

When Alonso was about to depart Fiorentinain Italy, Barcelona expressed their interest before being usurped by Chelsea in the end.

"I think there were some conversations with Barcelona but the truth is that it was not in my plans to leave Fiorentina," Alonso stated.

"It was only when the interest from Chelsea arrived in the summer when I started to consider to make a change."

Marcos Alonso has so far been a pivotal figure for Chelsea's backline and will hope he can seal the Premier League title, what with the club's current ten point lead in the league table.
