Chelsea Ready to Offer Frank Lampard New Role at Stamford Bridge Should Player Confirm Retirement

Published on: 14 November 2016

Chelsea could offer all-time record goalscorer and club legend Frank Lampard an opportunity to return to Stamford Bridge after his departure from MLS outfit New York City FC was confirmed, reported theMail.

38-year-old Lampard initially left Chelsea after 13 years of service in 2014, joining the United States franchise while also turning out for Premier League rivals Manchester City on loan.

Lampard has yet to decide what to do with his career - whether it carries on or he retires - following his exit from NYCFC, and the Blues are ready to make him an offer if he does hang up his boots.

The club are determined to keep a hold of players who have played a key role in their establishment as one of Europe's biggest clubs over the last decade, and Lampard is one of the key names in that revolution. The nature of the role is not yet known but more should become clear in the coming days and weeks.

It is evident however that Chelsea are looking to bring Lampard back to London.

In a statement confirming his departure from New York, Lampard said: "As my time at New York City comes to an end, I would like to thank so many people for the kindness and support that they have shown me over the last two years.

"My team-mates have been a pleasure to play alongside. The amazing fans have given me incredible support and backing. Ihave very much enjoyed my time and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to play for such a great club and in such an incredible city."
