Chris Hughton will excel with Black Stars if given the free hands work - Augustine Ahinful

Ex-Ghana international, Augustine Arhinful says Chris Hughton will succeed as Black Stars coach if only he is allowed to work.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has replaced Otto Addo as the head trainer for the senior national team.

Addo, 46, left his role following the country's early exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Otto Addo's assistants, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng will continue their work as assistant coaches to Hughton.

Following the appointment, Arhinful expects Chris Hughton to deal with possible challenges in the Black Stars after being with the team for a year.

According to him, 64 year old has what it takes to lead the side.

"If we needed to appoint somebody to lead the national team, it was him," he told Citi Sports.

"He has been with the team for some time and I'm sure as a former footballer who has now become a coach, coached at the highest level in the Premiership, he will be able to handle the team.

"If there are any impediments in his way, he will know by now. It is high time we allow him to do his own thing because his job is based on the technical abilities of the game. The administrative staff should also concentrate on administrative issues," he urged.

Prior to his appointment, Chris Hughton served as the technical director for the Black Stars.

The new technical team will take charge of their first game against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers scheduled for next month.
