Former Asante Kotoko head coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso has blamed Kotoko defenders for their early exit from the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Reds having gathered 7 points from from six games were eliminated by Zesco United following their 2-1 defeat to the Zambian giants in their last Group game in Zambia on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors conceded eight goals in the group stage and kept only one clean in their six games in the competition.

According to coach Frimpong Manso, the defensive set-up of the Reds was the last straw that broke the camels back since a club that concedes alot of goals will not be able to make it pass the group stage.

"The defensive setup of Kotoko was the main problem that caused the early exit of the team. The defenders kept making the same errors day in day out which was unpardonable".

"There was no stability at the defense and lack of concentration within the defenders affected Kotoko in their Africa Campaign".

“Lack of understanding in the defence affected the team from the start of the Competition till now", he shared his thought with Kumasi-based radio station Ashh FM.

Frimpong Manso in his submission offered a quick advice to the Reds after their exit.

He said, "I think Kotoko need a central defender to beef up their current squad".

"The management and technical must take time and prepare the team because this is a new team and they would need time".

“They need time to solve all the problems in the team and prepare for the future".
