Triumphant Black Stars B Coach Maxwell Konadu insists he is not surprised by the inclusion of Accra Hearts of Oak defender Vincent Atinga to the Black Stars squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Uganda.

Vincent Atinga was handed his debut Black Stars call up after impressing magnificently at the just ended West Africa Football Union Championship.

Ghana emerged victorious after dispatching the Super Eagles of Nigeria 4-1 and Atinga scored a penalty in that game.

Coch Maxwell Konadu who says he “is happy for him” indicated he was not surprised by the towering defender’s invitation.

“I am not surprised at all, we all saw what he did in the team at the WAFU, I think he was one of our best players,” he told Metro TV.

“So seeing him in the team doesn’t come as a surprise, he deserves to be in the team and I am happy for him.”

The 21 year-old scored twice at the WAFU tournament all from the spot and has been arguably the best defender is the Ghana Premier League, helping Accra Hearts of Oak to a third position and with a chance of winning the League.

Atinga was named together with player of the tournament Isaac Twum to the Black Stars proper.
