Confirmed: 2022 AWCON qualifiers postponed by CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations [AWCON] qualifiers to October later this year.

The qualifiers was initially scheduled to be played in the first week of June 2021, will now be played in October as venues and COVID-19 related makes the qualifiers next month impossible.

“The reasons of the postponement were based on the actual conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID-19," a statement released by Caf's Deputy General Secretary in charge of football and development, stated.

“The 1st round will now take place in the FIFA window of 18-26 October and the 2nd round will take place in the FIFA window of February 14-23, 2022."

Ghana was scheduled to play against Nigeria in June 2021 for a ticket to the 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations.

The Queens were expected to report to camp this week to begin preparations for the first leg against the defending champions, Nigeria.
