David De Gea Reveals His Heartbreak at Losing a Friend and Locker Mate in Chapecoense Air Disaster

Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea has expressed his grief on Twitter after his former Atletico Madrid teammate, Cleber Santana, was killed in Monday's tragic plane disaster in Colombia.


Santana, who was the Chapecoense captain, was one of the 71 victims who lost their lives when a plane carrying the Brazilian club crashed in the mountainous region of Cerro Gordo.

Upon hearing the news, De Gea has taken to Twitter to express his sorrow and grief that his former teammate's life was suddenly taken at the age of just 35.

On his page, De Gea wrote: "Deeply affected by Medellin's plane crash. I shared locker with Cleber Santana and it's difficult to reveal how I feel. A huge hug."

The Spaniard also posted a picture of the two together in their days at the Vicente Calderon, showing the midfielder ruffling the hair of the young De Gea,with the caption "Rest in Peace friend".


Santana spent four seasons with Atletico and won both the Copa del Rey in 2010, and the Intertoto Cup in 2007.


The star also won six major honours in Brazil, including two league titles with club side Santos, and was just one match away from claiming the Copa Sudamericana before Monday's tragic plane crash.
