David James: Wenger doesn\'t need new Arsenal signings, he needs a coach!

Former Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper David James believes that Arsene Wenger needs to upgrade his coaching staff at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has decided to extend his stay at Arsenal by another two years when he extended his contract on Wednesday.

And James believes that Arsenal have made the correct decision, but has urged the veteran Frenchman to improve his coaching staff in order to get the best out of the talented group of players currently at his disposal.

"There is an element of his coaching which is possibly now out of date hence the reasons Arsenal aren't challenging for titles," James said on Arsenal Fan TV.

"I think to get in a young, eager, hungry, talented coach, and when I say young, younger than Arsene, to come into Arsenal and work alongside Arsene Wenger, then you're going to get the best out of the likes of (Mesut) Ozil, the likes of (Aaron) Ramsey, the likes of (Olivier) Giroud. Then Arsenal will be challenging for leagues again.

"100 per cent (they can win the league under Wenger again). This is the most important thing, look at the quality of that Arsenal side. He brought in (Petr) Cech, he got Ozil, you've got Giroud, Ramsey, I love Ramsey, (Theo) Walcott is a player people don't have enough love for, that's my opinion.

"When you've got someone else going in to do the coaching, then you're going to get the best out of four, five, six, seven players. If Arsenal get seven players playing at a better level, they're challenging for titles. That's just simple, that's the way I look at it.

"It's about improving the players you've already got to start with, not having to go out and spend £30-40million on someone else."
