Dutch-Ghanaian youngster Nigel Ekow van Haveren set to join Helmond Sport for trials

The 19-year-old Nigel Ekow Oheneba van Haveren wants to advance his career with Helmond Sport.

After leaving Vitesse, the goalkeeper is no longer subject to transfer restrictions, therefore he is given a shot with the top division team.

The Dutch-born Ghanaian youngster is on trial with the Brabant-based club.

In 2016, Nijmegen native Van Haveren transferred from NEC to the Vitesse training. He then transitioned from youth to the top pick. He sat on the bench, for instance, during the European season of the Arnhem club in 2021–2022. However, the goaltender was unable to make the breakthrough.

Van Haveren's Vitesse contract expires on July 1st. No further offer has been made by the Arnhem club. There are already two keepers at Helmond Sport. The targeted number 1 is Wouter van der Steen, while the other two are Robin Mantel.

The 1.9m goalkeeper is eligible to play for Ghana. He has previously stated in an interview that it will be an honor to play for Ghana.
