Ian Wright believes ex-Swansea forward Jordan Ayew not motivated to score goals for Crystal Palace

Former England international Ian Wright says the club should hope for a quick return of Belgian international Christian Benteke in order to overcome their poor goalscoring form in the Premier League this season.

The former Liverpool striker underwent a knee surgery in September and is expected to return in January.

The Eagles have struggled to find the back of the net on numerous occasions and have been wasteful n front of goal as Jordan Ayew and Alexander Sorloth have been in pale shadows of themselves.

The pair is yet to score for the club, with Wilfred Zaha and Luka Milivojevic leading the scorers' chart with three and two goals respectively in as many games this term.

Speaking to 90mins, the ex-Crystal Palace striker believes the club cannot rely on the Ghanaian forward and co. to bang in the goals.

"They can create chances with Wilf [Zaha] and with Andros [Townsend], especially when they're playing well, and then you're hoping that the luck that he's had in front of goal will change," Wright said.

"But then you look at Sorloth, he looks like somebody who's going to struggle to score goals at this level. You've got Jordan Ayew, who looks like someone who just doesn't look enthused to try and do well as I thought he would coming in on loan.

"You look at it [scoring chart] and you feel it's going to be a struggle to find those goals and that's a worry because you're not talking about a lot of goals in the team as a whole. You're not seeing centre-halves scoring, not too many midfielders apart from Milivojevic with penalties," he added.

Ayew, 27, is likely to be left out of the starting XI when Burnley visit Selhurst Park this weekend in the English Premier League.

He joined Palace on loan from Swansea City for the 2018–19 season with an option to make the deal permanent.

Jordan Ayew was part of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations team in Equatorial Guinea that took a silver medal as result of losing out to Ivory Coast on a penalty shoot-out whom they clinch the African Cup.
