Ghanaian born former France Captain Marcel Desailly has charged the Black stars of Ghana to make Ghana proud once again by winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars defeated Mauritius 2-0 on Sunday to secure their 21st AFCON appearance and the world cup winner, Desailly claims it is long overdue for an AFCON trophy.

Marcel Desailly who played for France but has ties with Ghana because of his mum has called on the current Black Stars players to leave an indelible foot print by winning the AFCON next year.

“We have an experienced Coach with a federation having good structures but it’s been long overdue more than 30 years. The players must bring their expertise on board to help Ghana.” Marcel who has been linked with the Black Stars Coaching job on several ocassions told footballghana.com.

The Black Stars being the only team with more appearances in the finals of the AFCON with nine, have now qualified for the tournament 21 times in total, finishing as runners-up five times, third once, and fourth three times in their previous 20 appearances. By Eli Kondoh.
