Exclusive: Watford coach Claudio Ranieri interested in signing Ghana defender Daniel Amartey in winter

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri is interested in signing Ghana defender Daniel Amartey in the January transfer window, Footballghana.com can report.

Amartey, who currently ply his trade for Leicester City has been instrumental since his arrival in January 2016 from FC Copenhagen.

He was a member of the squad that won the Foxes first English Premier League title in 2016 under coach Claudio Ranieri.

However, Ranieri who signed the Ghanaian defender during his stint with Leicester City is interested in Amartey whose contract expires at the end of the season and has therefore asked the leadership of Watford to sign him in the winter.

The Italian manager is optimistic of guiding Watford to escape relegation but is hoping to beef up his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Footballghana.com understands Leicester City have begun contract extension talks with the 26-year-old but it is unknown whether he will commit his future to the club.

Meanwhile, Amartey could move outside England following interest from clubs in Italy, Germany and Spain.
