Published on: 02 March 2021

Former Chelsea superstar, Michael Essien in the latest post on Instagram has offered his solidarity to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA) community in Ghana.

The LGBTIA community in the West African country in recent weeks has noted that they feel unsafe in the country.

Not only did the opening of their office in the capital attract backlash from the public, condemnation from organisations and government officials saw the Police locking up the office.

While they push for their rights to be respected, former Ghana footballer Michael Essien has offered his support.

In a post sighted on his Instagram page, the ex-Real Madrid midfielder says the LGBTI community in Ghana has his support.

“We see you, we hear you, we support you. Our LGBTIA community in Ghana,” a post on the Black Stars legend reads.
