Former GFA vice-president George Afriyie part ways with Liberty Professionals

Former Ghana Football Association FA Vice President George Afriyie has resigned from his role as a Director of Liberty Professional after agreeing to take over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aduana Stars.

The Ogya lads are set to confirm the appointment of George Afriyie as their new Chief Executive Officer ahead of the 2019/20 league season.

As a result, he can't stay as a director of Liberty Professional because it would lead to sanctions from the the Licensing Board of the Ghana FA as holding roles in clubs playing in same league raises conflict of interest issues.

According to local media reports, the top hierarchy of the Dormaa based club are in advanced talks to hand the former Ghana Football Association, executive committee member, a top role at the club.

Mr George Afriyie was in Dormaa last week to hold talks with the club's bankroller Nana Agyemang Badu in view of the vacant CEO's position at the club.

The 49-year-old football administrator and his entourage were in the stands of the Nana Agyeman Badu Park on Sunday when Aduana Stars played their final preseason friendly against Ivorian side Africa Sport.

He is joining the 'Ogya' family as a replacement for Mr Albert Commey who resigned from his position earlier this month to join fellow Premier League side Techiman Eleven Wonders.

Mr Afriyie is the President of Okyeman Planners and a management member of Liberty Professionals.

He was one of the candidates that vied for the 2019 Ghana Football Association Presidential elections.

Aduana Stars will start their 2019/20 Ghana Premier League campaign with Inter Allies at the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium in Dormaa on Sunday.
