Former Liverpool attacking midfielder Suso has revealed that he came close to a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid before joining Liverpool as a 17-year-old.

The Spaniard moved to Merseyside in 2010 from Cadiz, but failed to ever establish himself in the first team.

Since moving to Italy, however, Suso has markedly improved, particularly at Milan this season. His performance in theDerby della Madonnina against Inter on Sunday night caught the eye, scoring twice in what was a disappointing performance from the 'hosts'.

Suso so far this season:

13 appearances (12 starts)
4 goals
4 assists
21 chances created
21 shots attempted on goal
281 passes

Clearly possessing natural talent, the 23-year-old has now claimed that he was on the verge of a move to Los Blancos as a youth player.

"We had practically done a dealwith Real Madrid when Liverpool got in touch. And I wanted to go to the Premier League," he said - viaMundo Deportivo.

Suso doesn't have any regrets about moving to Serie A, though, crediting the change of league with his general improvement as a player.

"In Italy I have improved a lot tactically. I think it is the best league in that aspect," he added. "This year, Milan are better, therehas come a coach (Vincenzo Montella) that is fair to everyone and committedto young people."

His form also earned him a call up toJulen Lopetegui's provisional Spain squad earlier this month, although he is yet to make his first appearance for the national team.

He said: "I'm happy because Lopetegui isthinking of me. I was in the pre call, so I willkeep working."
