Former Man Utd Star Attempts to Explain Anthony Martial's Poor Form Compared to Last Season

Anthony Martial's decline this season has been noticeable for all to see and former Manchester United defender, Mikael Silvestre, believes the French winger is a 'different player' to last season.

The world's most expensive teenage footballer, who was signed last summer from AS Monaco, was one of the breakthrough stars in the Premier League last season, finishing as the Red Devils' top scorer with 17 goals in all competitions.

However, the ex-United defender believes the combination of a tough summerwith France at Euro 2016 and Zlatan Ibrahimovic taking his no. 9 shirt has provoked a downturn a form.

The 21-year-old responded to potential exit rumours on Twitter recently and Silvestre believes his international compatriot can overcome his woes at Old Trafford.

Dont listen the papers it's wrong thanks Come on United ï”´

Silvestre told TalkSport, as perManchester Evening News: "He had been their top scorer last season but this year he's a different player.

"He had a difficult summer with France. He had a game where he didn't perform and he was out of the team. And you have to remember the episode of giving his number for Ibrahimovic to take. He was not happy about that.

"We always say when you have a good first season it's hard and we have to put that on the fact he's still young and still learning.

"I hope he keeps patient and won't do a Pogba and head to Juventus."

The winger has been in and out of the United team recently with Henrikh Mkhitaryan usurping the Frenchman in Jose Mourinho's lineup.

Martial now faces a tough period in his career, but his social media commitment to the club and obvious talent will keep fans optimistic that glimpses of the explosive forward play seen last season will start to slowly creep back into his game.
