Gagliardini to be Spalletti’s wildcard as Inter prepare for the derby

The season’s first Derby della Madonnina is set to take place after the international break with Inter playing host to AC Milan and Luciano Spalletti is already preparing for the meeting.

Roberto Gagliardini’s chances this season have been more limited than they were last term, but the ex-Atalanta midfielder could be given the chance to shine against the Rossoneri.

With Gagliardini not being a member of Inter’s Champions League squad and therefore ‘unavailable’ for the subsequent trip to the Camp Nou, La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Spalletti may well turn to the 24-year-old in his starting XI.

Another reason for his possible selection is that Matias Vecino will be returning from international duty with Uruguay and Spalletti will want him fresh ahead of Barcelona.

Gagliardini remains an important player for Inter, despite not always featuring in the XI and he could be something of a wildcard against Milan.
