Gareth Southgate is set to be confirmed as England head coach on Wednesday after convincing the FA to award him a mega four-year deal that will pocket him £8m.

The former Three Lions U21 boss took over as interim boss of the senior national side following Sam Allardyce's controversial and short tenure in the hot seat after an undercover newspaper report cost him his job, and since then has lead the side to two wins and two draws.

In World Cup qualifying games against Malta, Slovenia and Scotland he picked up a total of seven points, while also overseeing an impressive display against Spain at Wembley Stadium in a friendly, in which they drew 2-2 after coughing up a 2-0 lead.

And according to theMirror, the FA are ready to announce Southgate as the country's permanent boss on a four-year package, paying him £2m a year - £3m less than Allardyce's contract.

However, there will be significant bonuses for qualifications to the World Cup in 2018 and the Euros in 2020 for the former Middlesbrough boss.

Further reports suggest that Southgate is toset about assembling his backroom staff straight away, with Chelsea's assistant Steve Holland, with whom he worked in his time as England Under-21s manager and during the last four games with the seniors, his top target.

Southgate will now have some time to prepare and watch over his current crop of players with the side's next World Cup qualifier in March against Lithuania in London.
