Get Me Some Answers! Mourinho Launches Review of Man Utd Medical Department After Injury Problems

Published on: 08 November 2016

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly launched a review of the club's medical department after being left unhappy with the number of injuries he's had to deal with since arriving in the summer.

New signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan spent two months sidelined after an existing thigh problem flared up against Manchester City in early September, while Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney have also been out of action with niggling issues at various points this season.

Luke Shaw has continued to struggle with his fitness ever since returning to action from a broken leg, and Phil Jones only played his first game of the season at the weekend.

According to a report from The Times, Mourinho has been 'hugely frustrated' by all the problems he's faced. It is said that the situation regarding £26m Mkhitaryan's longer than expected absence has been of particular annoyance to the United boss.

There is thought to be no individual blame assigned to any single person among the club's medical staff, but Mourinho wants answers.

The report from The Times even suggests that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in the best shape of his career, has been struggling with fitness. He apparently no longer feels as sharp and is said to believe that not enough aerobic work isdone in training.

Mourinho's predecessor Louis van Gaal encountered a terrible injury crisis while in charge last season, giving opportunities to several youngsters including Marcus Rashford and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, while United often had similar crises going back to the Sir Alex Ferguson years when Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher would occasionally have to fill in at centre-back.

When Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford he actually boasted about his good record when it comes to player fitness, firmly stating 'my record of injuries is very, very low' when speaking at his first United press conference back in early July.
