GFA didn't visit Jerry Akaminko when he was injured - Derek Boateng

Former Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng says his former team-mate Jerry Ankaminko has been overlooked by the Ghana Football Association.

Akaminko is currently playing for Persik Kediri in the Indonesian Liga 1 after some time out due to an injury he sustained while in action for Ghana.

The 32-year-old picked up an injury in a friendly against the Netherlands prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a situation which saw him miss a chance of making a dream World Cup appearance as a footballer.

Speaking to Untold Stories TV GH Derek Boateng said

“I have been talking to him often, we live in the same area at East Legon, he is okay but as I said they have to put the players first,”

“Jerry is one of the players who was part of the 2014 World Cup, they played a friendly match against Holland and he got injured and that was the end of Jerry’s career,"

“Ask yourself if any of the GFA members have called or gone to check on him, none of them. So why do they always try to paint players black, they don’t do the right things because Jerry is without any Club because of that injury," he added.

According to Boateng, Akaminko tried making contact with the GFA but he did not get any response from.

“He tried to come but injury is something that kills your spirit, it is really bad. None of the GFA members have gone to Jerry’s house or pick a phone call and ask how he is doing, not to even talk of giving him something (Money) because of the injury and Jerry is there,"

“When I spoke to him the last time, he called the GFA and no one picked up and it is really bad so the fans have to know what is going on and back the players and try to help the players because right now those people still work at the GFA and still take their salaries but where is Jerry. He doesn’t take any salary anywhere again. One injury for Ghana, not Club side, for Ghana,” he concluded.
