Ghana FA to name new Black Stars coach this week

The Ghana Football Association is expected to appoint a new coach for the senior national soccer team, the Black Stars this week bearing clearance from government. 

The Black Stars is currently without a substantive trainer following the resignation of Otto Addo after the 2022 World Cup.

The Germany-based coach relinquished his role to continue his job as the talent development coach for giants Borussia Dortmund.

Footballghana.com has gathered the domestic football governing body will name a new trainer for the West African powerhouse this week subject to clearance from the government.

It is said former Brighton manager Chris Hughton will be handed the Black Stars job ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Hughton served as the technical advisor to the national team during the World Cup play-off against Nigeria and the global showpiece proper in Qatar.

Meanwhile, George Boateng and Didi Dramani will be maintained as the assistants’ coaches to the national team.

The pair served as an assistants’ coaches under Otto Addo and were part of the technical team for the World Cup.

Their first assignment will be against Angola in the AFCON qualifiers set for March 2023.

The Black Stars of Ghana will host Angola in their third group game at the Cape Coast Stadium

Ghana top Group E with 4 points after two matches into the qualifiers.
