The two top teams faced off in the last match of the round of 16 yesterday to battle for the last spot of the quarter-finals. A pulsating encounter produced two goals at the end of the 90 minutes, each side scoring one in the process to push the match into extra time.

A good team goal completed by attacker Taha Khenissi on the 73rd minute was canceled in the dying minutes of the match courtesy an own goal from Rami Bedoui.

The extra time could not produce any goal but Tunisia went on to win the penalty shootout. They scored all 5 of their kicks with Ghana scoring only four to see them being booted out of this year’s tournament.

The West African country joins the likes of defending Champions Cameroon, host nation Egypt, as well as Herve Renard’s Morocco who were all tagged as favorites to go all the way and win the tournament.

Whiles Cameroon was eliminated by the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco were also given the marching orders by South Africa and Benin respectively.
