Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak are reportedly close to appointing Nigerian tactician, Paul Osahoun Aigbogun as their new head coach.
The Phobians are currently without a substantive coach and are in search of a new trainer ahead of the start of the 2023/24 football season.
The former Ghana Premier League winners worked with three coaches during the 2022/23 season namely, Samuel Boadu, Slavko Matic and David Ocloo.
Boadu, who ended the club’s trophy drought started the season before he was replaced by Serbian trainer Slavko Matic in October 2022.
However, disgruntled fans of the club instigated the departure of the Serbian in March, 2023, where David Ocloo took charge until the end of the season.
Hearts of Oak ended the season in 12th position with 46 points. They also failed to win in their last five matches, losing four and drawing against Berekum.
According to Kumasi FM, the leadership of the Phobians have engage in advanced talks with the former assistant coach of Nigeria to take over the club ahead of next season.
The Phobians are expected to name a new technical team next week, with Aigbogun expected to lead the coaching staff.
The 51-year-old Nigerian trainer is considered as one of the experienced coaches in Nigeria, having managed Warri Wolves and two-time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba.
Meanwhile, the club are said to be in talks with former Ghana international Laryea Kingston to take up the assistant coaching role whiles they engage Dutch coach Rene Hiddink for the Sporting Director job.
