There are plans for the Ghanaian players stranded in Ethiopia to be evacuated back home on Friday, July 17, 2020, footballghana.com can report.
Last month, a video posted by a group of Ghanaian players who have been stranded in Ethiopia for months as a result of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic went viral.
That video together with interviews granted on a host of the Radio Stations in Ghana caught the attention of the GFA president Kurt Okraku.
He quickly liaised with the Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah to look at how to help and bring the stranded players back home to their families.
It appears their talks with the Ghanaian embassy in Ethiopia has yielded results with Lateef Mohammed who is one of the stranded players confirming that they will be evacuated back home on Friday.
“We will be coming home on Friday. Some of us have paid monies between $200- $500.
“We have been told we will be picked by bus at Lome and then sent to Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence to be quarantined”, the player said in an interview with Happy FM.
It is understood that the players who number up to 21 will take a flight to Togo before being bussed across the border to Ghana.
