Hearts of Oak need to beef up squad after slow start to 2019/20 GPL season - Edward Nii Odoom

Interim Hearts of Oak coach Edward Nii Odoom says the club need to augment the squad after a slow start to the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League season.

The Phobians are win-less in their opening two games of the new season after losing 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea at the Accra Sports stadium and 3-0 to Medeama SC in Tarkwa on Sunday.

The defeat to Chelsea led to the sacking of Kim Grant who become the first coaching casualty this term.

The management of the club board have tried to play down a spending spree in the on-going transfer window but the interim manager admits the side need new faces to help revive their league campaign.

"We must beef up the squad. I think the midfield need some additions. We need creative midfielders and box to box midfielders who can fight for the ball for us," he said.

"I think that goal (first) brought us down. Our boys came back but Medeama were very physical and that worried us. Medeama were more aggressive than us."

"There is no pressure. The job is not bigger than me, I have coach for 30 years am not new in the game. We need to be organized for our next game. When you lose the ball you must react quickly but we were somehow slow."
