Hugo Broos: South Africa coach aims to beat Ghana at home in crucial WC qualifier

The head coach for the South Africa national team, Hugo Broos has set his sight on guiding his side to defeat Ghana later today in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Bafana Bafana last Friday started their campaign in the World Cup qualifiers in a game against Zimbabwe that ended in a draw.

Sitting third on Group G table, South Africa must beat Ghana to climb higher and enhance chances of finishing top of the group.

Ahead of the Ghana game, Hugo Broos says South Africa knows home matches are important and the team will play to win today.

“If you want to qualify, you have to win your home games, so we will try. (But) even if we draw, we are still in the running, because Ghana will move to four points, maybe Zimbabwe will also move to four. We’d still be in the running.

“Every game is different. You can’t live in the past. I want to see tomorrow if the players are ready to perform at this level. Ghana are the best team in the group,” the gaffer said at a press conference on Sunday.

Hugo Broos added, “We wanted to win (against Zimbabwe), but okay we didn’t. Tomorrow we try again. But what will be the result tomorrow I don’t know.

“Maybe against Ethiopia I will need to make some changes. It’s a young team, they need games at this level.”

Today’s tough encounter between South Africa and Ghana will be played at the FNB Stadium and has been scheduled to kick off at 16:00GMT.
