'I don't know if he is ready' - CK Akonnor speaks on Mohammed Salisu's Black Stars future

Ghana coach, CK Akonnor says he is unsure when young defender, Mohammed Salisu will make his Black Stars debut.

The Southampton centre back is yet to make his debut for the West African country.

Salisu was handed an invitation by former coach, Kwasi Appiah in October 2019 for the Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] qualifiers but could not show up due to injury during his day with Spanish side, Real Valladolid.

Following his move to the Premier League side last summer, the enterprising defender has been highly tipped to feature for the country.

But Akonnor answering questions from the media revealed that he is unsure when Salisu will make his Black Stars debut.

"With Mohammed Salisu, you need check," he said on Friday.

"The other day he said when he is ready, he will let us know.

"I don't know, maybe. He said when he is ready, and up till now, I don't know if he is ready or not. So I won't be able to answer that," he added.

Salisu featured in Southampton defeat to Everton last weekend at Goodison Park. He is expected to feature for the Saint this weekend when they host Manchester United at the Saint Mary's.
