The former captain of the Black Queens, Adwoa Bayor, revealed her tough beginnings when she decided to pursue a career in football.

She had an outstanding career, claiming the African Women Player of the Year award in 2003.

In an interview with Royal FM, the former midfielder revealed some details of her challenges.

“It was not easy in the beginning because combining school with football was difficult for me. When I went to school, I ditched classes to train so anytime I came back from the training, my elder brother seized my jerseys. I went to tell my mother that football is what I wanted and she told my brother to stop doing that.”

“Anytime I joined in to train, the boys told me that ‘You are a girl. You should be cooking food. You shouldn’t be doing things the boys do’. There were a lot of issues I had to overcome”.
