I turned down Asante Kotoko CEO job offer - Ex-GFA veep George Afriyie reveals

Former Ghana Football Association [GFA] vice president, George Afriyie has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko some two years ago.

The experienced football administrator was heavily linked to the position following the dissolution of George Amoako's led management.

Before the appointment of Nana Yaw Amponsah as the CEO of the club, George Afriyie was rumored as a favorite of Board Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei.

More than two years on, Mr. Afriyie has revealed that indeed he was contacted about presenting his credentials before the Board but he had to opt against the move because he was not ready for the job.

“I was invited by the current Kotoko Board to be interviewed and be offered the CEO position. At the time, I said ‘no, I’m not ready," he told Untold Stories TV GH.

“If you are offered any position at a time, you look at whether you are ready for it or not. So at the time, honestly, I wasn’t ready at all.

Asked whether he would want to consider the role in the future, the owner of Division One side Planners FC stated: “No, for now, I have moved beyond it.”

“I am doing my own thing and I am satisfied with what I am doing,” George Afriyie added.
