Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has expressed interest in serving as a Sports Minister should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) be re-elected.
In an interview with Onua TV, Nyantakyi indicated his willingness to consider the role under the NPP, citing challenges if approached by the opposing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“If NPP comes and they make me a Sports Minister, I may consider it but if the NDC comes and they consider me, it will be difficult," he said.
Drawing on his extensive experience, including his tenure as Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nyantakyi emphasized his commitment to revitalizing Ghanaian football.
"I will ensure that the GFA regains its former glory," he asserted, highlighting his insider perspective from his past presidency at the GFA.
Nyantakyi, who also holds a legal background, expressed his determination to contribute to the broader development of sports.
Notably, he served as a FIFA Executive Council member and led the Football Association from 2005 to 2018.
However, Nyantakyi's tenure faced controversy, leading to his removal from office by FIFA and CAF in 2018 following an investigative report by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
In a separate development, Nyantakyi has announced his intention to contest the parliamentary seat at Ejisu following the passing of John Kumah.
