Ghanaian youngster Mathew Anim Cudjoe is optimistic about earning his debut call-up to the Black Stars by the end of the year.

The former Asante Kotoko and Legon Cities winger was part of the Ghana squad that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 in Mauritania.

Since then, his teammates Fatawu Issahaku, Philemon Baffuor, and Ibrahim Danlad have been called up to the Black Stars. Issahaku has already made an impact, recently scoring in a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic, while Cudjoe eagerly awaits his chance.

“I want to play for the Black Stars. It would be a dream. When I was with Asante Kotoko, I always told the media I wanted to play for the national team. I believe it’s just a matter of time,” he said as reported by 3Sports.

“I believe in myself and know the opportunity will come. It’s about hard work, the coach, and my form. I think this year people will see me in the national team, and when they do, they’ll see Messi in me,” he added.

Currently, the winger position is highly competitive in the Black Stars, with a mix of youthful talent and experience. However, the former Dundee United player is confident he can break through.

“I’m a winger but can play as a number 10. When I get the ball, I drive forward and try to make things happen. There’s no pressure on me; I just need one opportunity, maybe a friendly game.”

Cudjoe recently chose not to renew his contract with Dundee and is currently a free agent.
