Ibrahim Sunday: I fear Hearts and Kotoko may buy matches to win the league title

Former Ghana international, Alhaji Ibrahim Sunday says he fears Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko may try to buy matches to win this season’s Ghana Premier League title.

In what has been a very exciting league campaign, the two most successful clubs in the country are only separated at the top by goals.

Speaking to UniversSports, Ibrahim Sunday has revealed that although the competition is good for the league, it has the potential to motivate clubs to buy matches.

“I fear that if it remains like this, with only goal average, one team can really buy their way at the last minute to score more goals against their opponent. It has happened before and it can happen again,” the former footballer now turned coach shared.

Ibrahim Sunday continued, “If they should be fair they should play fairly and win their matches as usual and not buy matches or goals from the other teams. But it has been an interesting season this time.”

Hearts of Oak after beating Medeama SC 2-0 on Sunday night lead the Ghana Premier League table with 53 points. Asante Kotoko follows in second with 50 points and a game in hand.

If the Reds beat Inter Allies FC today, they will be tied on points with the Phobians.
