Incredible Stat Shows Just How Valuable Victor Wanyama Has Been in Spurs' Unbeaten Home Run

Published on: 06 February 2017

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama was in fine form on Saturday as he saw his team emerge victorious over Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane. It was a result that kept table topping Chelsea just about visible on the title race horizon, while for Wanyama himself it extended a quite remarkable run of unbeaten Premier League home games.

It has now been well over a year since Wanyama has finished on the losing side at home in the Premier League - in action for former clubSouthampton against, ironically, Spurs on 19th December 2015.

Victor Wanyama's has not lost a PL (H) game since 19 December 2015 (413 days):

Harry Kane and Dele Alli scored in a 2-0 Southampton defeat on that occasion, but never since has Wanyama experienced what it is like to lose in front of his home fans.

It is now a run of 19 games that has included 17 wins and two draws, as well as 11 clean sheets. The latter is an aspect that Wanyama, as a shielding midfielder, can be particularly proud of.

After that 2-0 loss at St Mary's against his future employers, the Kenyan international was suspended for the only other home game Southampton subsequently lost (1-2 vs Chelsea) last season - absent due to a red card picked up against West Ham a few weeks earlier.

Following a £12m summer move, Wanyama has been part of a Spurs side that has proved almost impossible to beat so far in 2016/17. The team has lost only two Premier League games all season, the fewest in the division, with the only defeats coming away from home against Chelsea and Manchester United in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

But for a few too many draws in the early months of the season, Spurs might well have been within genuine striking distance of Chelsea and firmly in a two-horse title race. As it is, the nine-point gap is likely to be too big at this stage, yet with the youngest squad in the Premier League the future is definitely a very bright one for Spurs and an unbeatable Wanyama.
